Anatomy of a roof

Built layer by layer.

Scroll to watch a roof go on, in the same order we build yours.

  1. We tear off to the deck and check every sheet. Rotten wood and damaged fascia are replaced, so everything above is fastened to solid, flat wood.

  2. A peel-and-stick membrane (Polyglass) is rolled out from the eave to the ridge and bonded straight to the deck. It is the layer that keeps water out if the roof covering is ever damaged.

  3. Drip edge goes on at the eaves, then metal in every valley and along every ridge and hip. Those are the lines where water collects or sheds fastest, so they are sealed before any tile goes on.

  4. Tile is laid course by course from the eave up to the ridge and cut back along the valleys. Caps finish the ridge and hips, and seamless gutters carry the water away.

Anatomy of a roof

Built layer by layer.

Four layers go on every roof we replace, in this order.

  1. A 3D model of a house with plywood sheathing and white fascia boards on its hip roof

We tear off to the deck and check every sheet. Rotten wood and damaged fascia are replaced, so everything above is fastened to solid, flat wood.

  2. The same house with a pink peel-and-stick water barrier covering the whole roof

  3. The same house with silver drip edge, valley metal and ridge metal over the pink water barrier

    03

    Ridge and valley metal

Drip edge goes on at the eaves, then metal in every valley and along every ridge and hip. Those are the lines where water collects or sheds fastest, so they are sealed before any tile goes on.

  4. The finished house with a terracotta barrel-tile roof, open valleys, ridge and hip caps, and bronze seamless gutters

How every roof goes on

Tear off. Inspect. Repair. Protect.

The same four steps on every replacement, before a single tile, shingle or metal panel is laid.

  1. Roofing crew at work on the first morning of a re-roof at a large home in Hawks Landing, Plantation

Hawks Landing, PlantationFirst day of prep

    Tear off

The old roof comes off down to the deck and goes straight into our trucks. Nothing new is laid over old problems.

  2. Roofer in a straw hat and blue shirt nailing down bare plywood decking, with rolls of new underlayment beside him

    Tear off and prep

    Inspect

With the deck bare, we check every sheet of wood and show you what we find before anything is covered.

  3. Roofer working across a light gray shingle roof on a brown single-story home

    Shingle re-roof in progress

    Repair

Rotten wood and damaged fascia are replaced, so the new roof is fastened to sound wood.

  4. Front of a white Mediterranean home in Hawks Landing, Plantation, with dark garage doors and a roof dried in for tile

Hawks Landing, PlantationDry-in complete, ready for tile

    Protect

A fully adhered Polyglass water barrier seals the deck. Then the tile, shingle or metal goes on.

The owner

Meet Brian.

Brian started Glades Edge Roofing to run the kind of company he would want working on his own house.

He brought together experienced crews and still does the part many owners hand off: he meets homeowners in person, walks the roof, explains every option and answers the phone long after the contract is signed. Living and working on the coast gave him a particular respect for storm-damaged homes, and a preference for repairs that are quick, efficient and transparent.

Customers notice: most of our reviews mention him by name.

“He was the only one that personally came out and didn’t just send a quote through email.”
